The Gang of Four were arrested and sentenced marking the end of the Cultural Revolution -- CCC's Wednesday evening's documentary | Tonight (May 31, Wednesday 8pm) Screening: Chinese History (1971-1976) This episode covers the following historical events (1970-1976)
1. Lin Biao (who was named as Mao's successor) 's abortive coup attempt and his subsequent death in a plane crash as he fled China in September 1971. 2. Rehabilitation of Deng Xiaoping (reinstated as a vice premier); Zhou Enlai and Deng Xiaoping's strong influence and their moderate line favoring the Four Modernization 3. Improving relations with the West in general and the United States in particular 4. The year 1976 saw the deaths of the three most senior officials of the Communist Party (Premier Zhou, Zhu De and Mao) and an earthquake devastated the city of Tangshan in Hebei Province 5. The cultural Revolution ended with the Gang of Four were arrested
