Zhalong Crane Nature Reserve

  • Not far from Inner Mongolia, on the lower reaches of the Wuyu River in the west of Heilongjiang Province, the Zhalong Nature Reserve covers an area of 2,100 square kilometers. The reserve is home to 296 types of birds, most of them waterfowls. China is home to nine of 15 existing varieties of cranes, Zhalong boasts six of these nine. By the western edge of the reserve, a tourism zone has been built to serve bird watchers. They can visit exhibitions and domestication farms, but also lakes and pavilions were they can observe many different kinds of birds.
